Health & Safety Policy

The application and promotion of health and safety and this Policy is the responsibility of every Onis Head of Project.


It is the policy of Onis to:

 

  • provide safe and healthy working conditions.

  • set and maintain high standards of health and safety practice.

  • comply with the terms and requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

  • comply with the terms and requirements all other relevant statutory provisions.

  • maintain a programme of continual improvement.

 

Objectives


To meet the Policy requirements, Onis has set the following objectives:


  • identify hazards and assess risks.

  • establish and maintain risk control.

  • minimise the frequency of accidents and incidents.

  • communicate to all employees their individual health &safety obligations.

  • maintain a training programme for management, supervision and workers.

  • ensure that adequate, cost effective, resources are provided.

  • ensure the Policy is documented, implemented and maintained and is available to interested parties.

  • review the Policy periodically to ensure it continues to be relevant and appropriate to the organisation.

 

Arrangements - Onis Living


To meet the objectives laid down and to ensure compliance with the Policy Onis will maintain a documented system including:

 

  • duties and responsibilities of key personnel.

  • hazards, risk assessments and risk control measures.

  • specific procedures and documents for the works being undertaken.

  • safe systems and places of work.

  • training.

  • premises, plant and equipment.

  • medical facilities and welfare.

  • fire and other emergency procedures.

  • dealing with accidents/incidents.

  • periodically reviewing the Management System and issuing written information on the reviews undertaken.

  • implementing management programmes for improvements based upon the reviews undertaken.

  • maintaining a training programme and the documented records thereof.

  • periodically reviewing and documenting the resources required to meet Onis objectives.

  • communicating with management, supervision, workers and Sub Contractors on health &safety issues.

 

Arrangements - Employees and worker


Under the Health &Safety at Work Act 1974, employees and workers:


  • must take reasonable care of their own health and safety and for the health and safety of others who may be affected by his/her acts or omissions at work.

  • must co-operate together to ensure that the required legal obligations are met.

  • must not intentionally or recklessly misuse or interfere with or refuse anything provided under a statutory requirement in the interests of their health and safety, for example safety clothing and equipment (PPE), fire extinguishers, handrails and fire doors.

 

Arrangements - Sub Contractors

 

  • Onis Sub Contractor Policy - The Sub Contractor will agree to provide their services in a professional, safe and workmanlike manner.

  • Onis Sub Contractor objectives - The Sub Contractor will agree to comply with all reasonable requirements and specifications as well as current legislation.

  • To meet the Sub Contractor policy and objectives the Sub Contractor will undertake works in accordance with the Health & Safety requirements laid down within the agreed contract and any associated documentation. This will include any client specific requirements.

  • Onis will monitor the Sub Contractor's performance and take any action deemed necessary if a Sub Contractor is found to be not be performing.


This Policy is current from 08.01.2009. The Policy is reviewed on a regular basis, and at a minimum annually. Records of such reviews shall be maintained at Head Office.
